How many days a week do you spend working late? If you’re like many people, it may happen quite often. Yet while overworking may seem like a sign of a dedicated employee, it comes with a price.

People who don’t know how to balance work often have less energy, a weakened immune system, and a perpetual bad mood. Luckily, there are some things you can do to try and make time for all the things going on in your life.

Keep reading to learn about how to create the work-life balance that you so desperately need.

Create Time Blocks

To make sure you have the time to do everything you need and want to, try blocking out your time each week.

For example, if you’re trying to teach yourself Python, it can be hard to find the time to do it. Look at your schedule ahead of time to find an opening, then pencil it in to get it done. This will help you remember to make a point to do it.

Leave the Office at a Set Time

As your workday comes to a close, make sure you take around 20-30 minutes before you leave to tie up any loose ends. You don’t want to end up staying late because you forgot about an email that you had to send.

It can also be a good idea to extend your work and home separation to your phone. Add a second line so that you don’t have to worry about customers, clients, or anyone else trying to contact you on your personal phone.

Do Things for You

As tempting as it can be to work late and try and get ahead, remember the importance of finding time to do the things you enjoy. This can be hard to do but will benefit you in the long run.

You might think that you’re more productive if you work for 10 hours straight, but consider the value of breaking that up. Instead, take an hour break to get ice-cream, read a book, or do a quick yoga class. You’ll end up feeling more energized than you otherwise would.

Don’t Procrastinate Chores

When your off days finally roll around, kicking back and relaxing might be the biggest thing on your mind. But consider the value of sticking it out just a little longer to get some household chores done.

By doing this, you get to enjoy the final hours of your off days, as opposed to having to spend them washing dishes or cleaning your bathroom.

Stay Healthy With the Proper Work-Life Balance

These days, far too many peoples struggle with balancing work and play. If you’re one of those people who can’t seem to create a work-life balance, following the tips mentioned in this guide should help you make time for all the priorities you have going on.
