Can You Hear Noises at Night?
Mice are nocturnal creatures, so they go about their business at night.

If you start to hear either scratching, running, and squeaking, you can be confident you have mice in your home.
Look Out for Tiny Droppings
This is a dirty job, but it is one of the main ways of discovering that you have mice.
If you can, put some gloves on and go to the area you think you have mice. This may be in a certain room or, commonly, in the basement.
Look in the corners of the room and move any large objects in the way. Then, squat down and look carefully for mice droppings.
They will be black, cylinder-shaped, and roughly 3-6 millimeters in length. They may be hard to spot, so you may need to use a magnifying glass.
It would be best if you always were careful when disposing of mice droppings. Wear gloves and a respirator if you can. Make sure you don’t vacuum or sweep them. Instead, you should pick them up and dispose of them in a sealed bag.
Look Out for Holes and Torn-Up Materials
If you watched Tom and Jerry as a kid, you might remember Jerry the mouse escaping via a hole in the wall.
This wasn’t made up for the cartoon. Mice actually will create small holes in the wall. They do this to make nests and get from place to place.
Check the bottom of your walls for small holes. Remember, mice can fit through tiny gaps, so the holes may be just a couple of inches wide.
Finally, look out for any torn-up materials such as paper and tissue. Mice will use them for nests, but they are messy creatures. So, they will leave a trail of materials over the floor.
